Transportation Generalist - Windom Truck Station

About the role

The Transportation Generalist at Windom Truck Station is responsible for performing various maintenance tasks on roadways, roadside areas, and snow and ice control operations. The position requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction.

Responsibilities

• Maintains and reconstructs roadways, rights-of-way, roadway shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete road surfaces;
• Participates in bituminous road repair, culvert cleaning, and guardrail repair;
• Maintains roadsides, installs catch basins, places and removes Adopt-A-Highway bags, performs drainage and shoulder repair;
• Operates all tractor mowers and small rollers for the purpose of maintaining roadways;
• Performs traffic control set-ups in high volume traffic and ensures they are in accordance with the Temporary Traffic Zone Layouts field manual;
• Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management;
• Maintains and cleans snow and ice control equipment;
• Performs snow and ice removal operations, including snow plowing, ice removal, and chemical application;
• Performs landscaping duties, including maintenance of trees, grass, shrubs, brush, etc. on roadside – planting, watering, seeding, sodding, trimming and removal.

Requirements

• A Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction;
• One (1) year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, commercial landscaping, operating heavy equipment, or farm experience);
• Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience;
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information;
• Communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices;
• Maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Qualifications

• Previous MnDOT experience working as a laborer, Transportation Associate, or Transportation Generalist is preferred;
• Passes a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test with a level 3 or higher in Math and a level 4 or higher in Reading.

Pay

$25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,596 - $65,980 / annually
