About the role

Join CDM Smith's transportation team in Chicago and take the lead on transformative large-scale projects including highways, tunnels, and mass transit systems. Under light supervision, you'll develop engineering designs of basic to high complexity that shape the future of urban mobility and meet client project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
  • Updates design requirements as necessary.
  • Inspects new construction and existing transportation structures as necessary.
  • Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
  • Reviews draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices.
  • Mets with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
  • Attends conferences and symposia to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff, developing them for future growth and leadership within the discipline and firm.
  • May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.

Requirements

  • Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design.
  • Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
  • 5 years of related experience.

Min USD $95,846.00
Max USD $167,731.00
