About the role
The SA Metal Group is seeking a highly motivated, professional, and organized Transport Controller to join the Transport Department. The successful candidate will assist with organizing the logistics of the group to ensure smooth operation and that the company's requirements are met, reporting to the Transport Manager.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day transport service requirements.
- Dispatch and debrief drivers.
- Prepare daily tracking reports and updates.
- Serve as the first point of contact for drivers.
- Ensure the highest possible customer service levels.
- Maintain fleet roadworthiness, branding, and cleanliness in accordance with company policy.
- Oversee truck drivers and guide adherence to procedures.
- Liaise with management regarding driver-related issues.
- Ensure adherence to Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Capture and distribute incident reports timeously to stakeholders.
- Report faults and breakdowns on trucks promptly.
- Complete and issue paperwork for accessories (cell phones and tags).
- Conduct monthly audits and reports for cell phones and accessories.
- Submit daily check sheets to administrators.
- Book appointments for drivers for medicals and HR meetings.
- Order and issue PPE for existing drivers.
- Conduct truck and equipment audits.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ fleet controlling experience.
- Transport Management or similar qualification will be an added advantage.
- Proven leadership ability—must be able to lead by example.
- Code 14 driver’s license and Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) will be an advantage.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, and Microsoft Office).
- Proven knowledge in working with fleet tracking systems.
- Geographical knowledge of Gauteng and surrounding areas.
- Ability to speak multiple African languages is advantageous.
