This position is within the Transmission Line Engineering Department.

About the role

The successful engineer will complete projects supporting a large utility customer with minimal direction, working alongside in-house and client engineers as well as graphics technicians. The Lead Engineer will oversee a small department of Transmission Line Engineers and coordinate training for lower-level engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering and design activities related to Transmission Line Engineering, including engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management.
  • Prepare project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings; design drawings; engineering, material, and construction specifications; project schedules; and bills of material.
  • Develop project design alternatives and corresponding cost estimates.
  • Design new transmission line facilities with voltages ranging between 69 kV and 765 kV.
  • Utilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line design projects.
  • Attend contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring work activities are performed safely, in accordance with plans, established schedules, AEP policies, rules, standards, and external regulations.
  • Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors.
  • Provide leadership to facilitate project completion, train and mentor other engineers, and develop measurable work area goals and objectives.
  • Function as an engineering project lead for transmission projects.
  • Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities within the work group, team, department, or external entities to complete transmission projects.
  • Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees.
  • Identify and initiate corrective action when transmission line project objectives are not being met.
  • Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects.
  • Promote engineering professionalism and standards.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements that include scheduling, resources, and information for complex engineering projects.
  • Occasional travel for site visits is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET).
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET) will count toward years of experience.
  • A PE License is required.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
