Transmission Line Engineer (PE)

About the role
The successful candidate will lead engineering and design activities for transmission line projects, oversee a small team of engineers, and provide training and mentorship. The role involves coordination with in-house and client engineers, graphics technicians, and external entities to ensure project completion.
Responsibilities
- Engineer and design transmission line projects, including route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project/construction management.
- Prepare project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings, design drawings, engineering specifications, material and construction specifications, project schedules, and bills of material.
- Develop project design alternatives and corresponding cost estimates.
- Design new transmission line facilities with voltages ranging between 69 kV and 765 kV.
- Utilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line design projects.
- Attend contractor bid and construction meetings, ensuring work activities align with plans, schedules, safety standards, AEP policies, and external regulations.
- Coordinate with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors.
- Lead transmission projects, facilitating and coordinating work activities within the team, department, or external entities.
- Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees.
- Identify and initiate corrective actions when project objectives are not being met.
- Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects.
- Promote engineering professionalism and standards.
- Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements for complex engineering projects.
- Occasional travel for site visits may be required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) may count toward years of experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00 per hour. Individual compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, and internal equity.
