Role Overview

The Training Director leads the development, coordination, and evaluation of training programs for the Indiana Public Defender Council (IPDC).

Reporting to the Executive Director, this role ensures that attorneys providing court-appointed representation in Indiana courts have meaningful opportunities to develop and strengthen their advocacy and litigation skills.

Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $145,768.22.

A Day In The Life

  • Respond to IPDC member requests related to training needs.
  • Plan and set up training events using event management platforms and Salesforce.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships to support in-person training events, including preparing and executing service contracts.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and deliver training programs in both virtual and in-person formats.
  • Maintain and update the IPDC training calendar.
  • Analyze participant evaluations, share findings with the IPDC Board, and use feedback to continuously improve training content and delivery.
  • Partner with local defense leaders to develop training programs based on self-identified needs.
  • Schedule and coordinate case strategy meetings as requested by IPDC members.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the broader training needs of IPDC members.
  • Travel moderately throughout the state as required.

What You'll Need For Success

  • Proficiency with standard workplace technology, including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Salesforce, and Eventbrite.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to identify key stakeholders at the local, state, and federal levels and build productive working relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least 10 years of experience within an indigent defense or court-appointed representation system.
  • Extensive litigation and/or appellate experience in criminal law.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
