  • Treatment Specialist I, Grade 23: $76,742 - $102,537
  • Treatment Specialist II, Grade 24: $80,070 - $118,700

Who We Are Looking For

CABHS is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and skilled therapist to provide clinical services for the outpatient mental health clinic. We are looking for someone who will have knowledge and experience in treating clients with a wide variety of mental health conditions and substance use issues. The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate with community agencies focused on children, such as Child Welfare, Department of Juvenile Services, and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).

What You'll Be Doing

This position primarily serves children and families referred by Child Welfare Services (CWS) who are in significant need and often mandated for individual or family therapy services in order to ensure family stabilization and preservation. The home-based team therapist is often working collaboratively with the numerous other systems and professionals in the child and family’s life toward goals of well-being, safety, and permanency for children. Children and their caregivers referred by CWS often require immediate and highly skilled mental health treatment in order to stabilize their families, prevent out-of-home placements, and intervene in cases of severe trauma and/or abuse. This individual will do the following roles:

  • Provide trauma-informed and evidence-based individual, group, family therapy services and clinical case management in the community (including homes, schools, clinic, telehealth, etc.) to clients who experience barriers to accessing mental health and substance use services.
  • Conduct comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, make referrals, identify therapeutic goals, and develop person-centered therapy service plans.
  • Provide clinical case management to coordinate care across agencies.
  • Provide summaries for court as needed.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, schools, agency partners, and other community stakeholders to support therapy service goals.
  • Participate in case consultations, clinical supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practices in all aspects of care.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when needed.
  • Travel throughout the community to provide services in the home, in schools, at the Rockville clinic, and other county offices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • If filled at the Therapist I Level: Education – Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, nursing, or a related behavioral science field. Experience – None. Equivalency – None.
  • Licenses Required – One of the following licenses, issued by the State of Maryland, and maintained by the employee: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), or Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT).
  • License Requirement – Possession and maintenance at all times of a: Valid Class C (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence when required for job-related duties.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

  • Demonstrated experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to a predominantly Spanish-speaking population.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with clients in the following areas: trauma, attachment, family systems, child development, substance use, self-injurious behavior, crisis/safety assessment.
  • Experience working with multiple agencies (i.e., DJS, CWS, MCPS).
  • Experience providing therapy off-site (school/home/community).
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing evidence-based practices such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Strategic Family Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, etc.
  • Basic multilingual Spanish proficiency.
