Tenure-Track or Clinical Track Open Rank Professor in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery

Requirements

The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have achieved American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) board certification or completed residency training with credentials accepted by the ACVS. Preference will be given to candidates with ACVS certification, advanced degree(s), a track record in scholarship, and/or prior research training.

Professional Opportunities

Our faculty and staff provide broad public engagement through operation of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, a regional primary and referral care center for the delivery of state-of-the art veterinary medical services. The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine features modern animal care and research facilities. Our faculty provide instruction and service and conduct discovery relevant to companion animals; horse, food and fiber animals; and wildlife and zoological species. We are dedicated not only to animal health and welfare, but also to the improved understanding of the human-animal bond, food production systems, and ecosystem health.

Duties

• The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a full-service facility with newly equipped surgical suites and fluoroscopic capabilities.
• The orthopedic service at the University of Illinois sees a wide variety of orthopedic cases.
• Equipment to perform arthroscopy, interlocking nail (I-Loc Ò IM Fixator) and total hip replacement are available, in addition to standard orthopedic equipment needed for fracture repair and other commonly seen orthopedic conditions.
• On-site services include digital radiography, 128 slice computed tomography, 3T MRI, radiation therapy, Dual Energy X-Ray absorptiometry (DEXA), force plate gait analysis, and physical rehabilitation.
• Teaching responsibilities will include didactic, small group, and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students.
• Candidates will be expected to participate in clinically and scientifically relevant scholarship.
• Candidates interested in collaborative research will find ample opportunities to partner within our thriving faculty as well as with scientists and investigators on our main campus.
• The University of Illinois is highly focused on faculty and service development and growth and will provide significant funding and support for additional equipment and training to candidates with special interests or skills in areas relevant to small animal orthopedic surgery.

Salary

The budgeted salary range for this position is $160,000 to $200,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable positions.
