About the role

The Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking a full-time Small Animal Surgical Educator.

Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver the small animal surgery and perioperative care in the team-taught systems-based courses in the curriculum.
  • Develop assessment strategies in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across years and courses.
  • Actively and effectively engage in student-centered instruction, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Collaborate closely with the Clemson University community practice and with our partner clinics.
  • Serve on CVM and campus committees as an appointed or elected member.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent with 3 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Strong foundation in small animal surgical practice (primarily soft tissue; orthopedic experience is a plus).
  • Ability to teach surgical skills to veterinary students in classroom and laboratory/skills settings.
  • Commitment to excellence and creativity in education.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in South Carolina and ability to obtain a DEA license.

Qualifications

  • Experience in surgical skills education, simulation pedagogy, and/or competency-based assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring learners (students, interns, residents, or technicians).
  • Board certification or residency training in small animal surgery (ACVS, ECVS, ABVP).
