About the role
The Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking a full-time Small Animal Surgical Educator.
Responsibilities
- Create and deliver the small animal surgery and perioperative care in the team-taught systems-based courses in the curriculum.
- Develop assessment strategies in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across years and courses.
- Actively and effectively engage in student-centered instruction, coaching, and mentorship.
- Collaborate closely with the Clemson University community practice and with our partner clinics.
- Serve on CVM and campus committees as an appointed or elected member.
Requirements
- DVM or equivalent with 3 or more years of relevant experience.
- Strong foundation in small animal surgical practice (primarily soft tissue; orthopedic experience is a plus).
- Ability to teach surgical skills to veterinary students in classroom and laboratory/skills settings.
- Commitment to excellence and creativity in education.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in South Carolina and ability to obtain a DEA license.
Qualifications
- Experience in surgical skills education, simulation pedagogy, and/or competency-based assessment.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring learners (students, interns, residents, or technicians).
- Board certification or residency training in small animal surgery (ACVS, ECVS, ABVP).
