Job Responsibilities
The tutor is primarily responsible for encouraging self-directed learning and development in each student. To do this, a tutor assists students with their coursework. This may require the tutor to help clarify a concept or give a clear explanation of an assignment. The tutor is not expected to know how to answer every possible question, but rather to work to ensure that the student develops a firm foundation to take learning to the next level.
ASL Tutor Duties
- Visit classes at the start of each semester to introduce themselves and make students aware of tutoring resources.
- Attend ASL club meetings or other college events to promote tutoring services.
- Additional tasks may also be assigned by the director.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- Fluency in ASL is a must.
- Degreed tutors (Bachelor’s to master’s) need to present a list of references.
Preferred Qualifications
- The ability to relate well to people, to self-start and to adjust easily to a variety of learning styles is beneficial.
Additional Comments
Tutors must also be willing to submit to a background check.
