About the Role

This position is for adjunct faculty at the University of New Mexico’s Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque. The Liberal Arts & Education Division anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach face-to-face and/or online lower division courses (100/1000/2000 Level) during the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026 semesters.

UNM Gallup is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico, established to provide post-secondary education tailored to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of its community. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of teaching, including content delivery, assignment development, grading, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the division chair.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester based on student enrollment levels, course offerings, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Candidates selected for these positions will report to the division chair.

Responsibilities

  • Teach face-to-face and/or online lower division courses during assigned times, which may include evenings or weekends.
  • Develop and deliver course content.
  • Create and grade assignments.
  • Report grades and assess student learning as outlined by the division chair.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in American Studies, Anthropology, Geography, Linguistics, Political Science, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or related field; or
  • Master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in any of the fields listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in American Studies, Anthropology, Geography, Linguistics, Political Science, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or related field.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.

Pay

Adjunct Faculty are compensated based on credentials and credit hour course loads. Salary range: $1,135.26 - $1,228.24 per credit hour.
