This position is for the UNM-Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

About the Role

The University of New Mexico-Gallup Branch, Math, Business, Science, and Technology Division, anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach face-to-face and/or develop lower division courses (100–2000 level) in the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.

UNM Gallup is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. The University of New Mexico established branch colleges to provide post-secondary education throughout the state, responding to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities. The campus offers community education programs, career and technical education (including certificate and associate degree programs), and transfer programs that prepare students for upper-division entry into colleges and universities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lower division classes in the following disciplines:
    • Pre-Algebra - MATH 099
    • Introduction to Algebra - MATH 100
    • Intermediate Algebra - MATH 1215
    • College Algebra - MATH 1220
    • Mathematics for Teachers I - MATH 1110
    • Mathematics for Elementary and Middle School Teachers I - MATH 1118
    • Mathematics for Middle School Teachers - MATH 2115
    • Mathematics for Elementary and Middle School Teachers III - MATH 2118
    • Trigonometry - MATH 1230
    • Pre-Calculus - MATH 1240
    • Application Calculus I - MATH 1430
    • Calculus I - MATH 1512
    • Calculus II - MATH 1522
    • Calculus III - MATH 2530
    • Introduction to Statistics - MATH 1350
  • Manage all aspects of assigned classes, including:
    • Meeting face-to-face during scheduled times (may include evenings or weekends)
    • Content delivery
    • Assignment development
    • Grading assignments
    • Reporting grades
    • Assessing student learning as outlined by the division chair

Positions are contingent upon need each semester based on student enrollment, course offerings, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.
  • A master’s degree or higher in a discipline other than that for which you are applying, and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD, ABD, or EdD in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • At least one (1) year of successful teaching experience at the community college level.
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.

Pay

Adjunct Faculty are compensated based on their credentials and credit hour course loads.
