Temp Part-Time Faculty in Humanities

This position is for the UNM-Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

About the Role

The University of New Mexico’s Gallup Branch, Liberal Arts & Education Division, anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach face-to-face and/or online lower division courses (1000/2000 Level) during the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026 semesters. UNM Gallup is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico. The branch responds to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of its community by offering community education programs, career and technical education, and transfer programs.

The Liberal Arts & Education Division is seeking qualified temporary part-time faculty members to teach lower division classes in the following potential areas:

• CLST 1110 – Greek Mythology
• CLST 2110 – Greek Civilization
• CLST 2120 – Roman Civilization
• HIST 1105 – Making History
• HIST 1110 – United States History I
• HIST 1120 – United States History II
• HIST 1150 – Western Civilization I
• HIST 1160 – Western Civilization II
• INTS 1101 – Introduction to International Studies
• NATV 1150 – Introduction to Native American Studies
• PHIL 1115 – Introduction to Philosophy
• PHIL 2210 – Early Modern Philosophy
• RELG 1110 – Introduction to World Religions
• RELG 1550 – Religion, Health and Medicine
• RELG 2110 – Eastern Religions
• RELG 2120 – Western Religions

Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they teach, including meeting face-to-face during assigned times (which may include evenings or weekends), content delivery, assignment development, grading, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the division chair.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Selected candidates will report to the division chair.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned lower division courses in specified disciplines
• Meet face-to-face with classes during scheduled times, including potential evening or weekend sessions
• Develop and deliver course content
• Create and grade assignments
• Report grades and assess student learning

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in African Studies, American Studies, Classical Studies, History, the Humanities, International Studies, Native American Studies, Philosophy, Religion, or a related field; or
• Master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in any of the fields listed above

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctorate degree in African Studies, American Studies, Classical Studies, History, the Humanities, International Studies, Native American Studies, Philosophy, Religion, or a related field
• College-level teaching experience
• A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities

Pay

Adjunct Faculty are compensated based on credentials and credit hour course loads. Salary range: $1,135.26 - $1,228.24 per credit hour.
