This position is based in Jackson, Mississippi and is designated as a Safety Sensitive role, requiring mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. Successful completion of the EEI TECH test is required.
About the Role
The Telecommunications Technician will independently plan and coordinate detailed work activities under general supervision, executing routine to advanced tasks involving the installation, configuration, networking, provisioning, and technical support of diverse telecommunications systems and network infrastructure components.
Responsibilities
- Support and execute telecom network circuit provisioning, fault isolation, and resolution.
- Perform installation, relocation, and modification of system hardware, and assist in diagnosing and restoring service during outages.
- Experience in Mesh Network Technologies and AMI/DA.
- Revise and execute work orders accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate proficiency and knowledge in IP networking, including ISIS, BGP, and MPLS-TE routing protocols.
- Operate and analyze advanced test equipment, such as Ethernet testers, Volt/Ohm meters, RF power meters, frequency counters, communications service monitors, optical power meters, Transmission Impairment Measurement Test Sets (TIMS), T1 test sets, DS3 test sets, field service units, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs).
- Install, test, maintain, and repair Aviat MW Radio systems, Motorola 800 Radio systems, and Ciena/Nokia/Adtran Fiber Transport equipment.
- Perform AC/DC power installation and upkeep.
- Plan, layout, and execute assigned tasks with a focus on safety and efficiency.
- Supervise crew members, provide clear instructions, and train team members as needed.
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities for complex telecommunications circuit provisioning, equipment installation, and troubleshooting across a wide range of transport and peripheral systems.
- Be available for possible after-hour call outs to address issues.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4+ years of experience in at least two of the following domains: two-way radio system support, fiber optic transmission systems, microwave radio system support, AC/DC power plant maintenance, IP networking, VLAN, MPLS-TE/TP, mesh network technologies, or Ciena transport equipment utilizing 10X. Alternatively, a two-year degree in Electronics Technology or a closely related field is acceptable.
- A minimum of 4+ years of experience in a telecommunications Technician role or an equivalent position.
- Strong foundation in electronic circuitry, electronics theory, IP networking, MPLS-TE/TP, PTP (Precision Time Protocol), SYNC-E Timing, and mesh network technologies.
- Operational knowledge of AMI/DA systems, Ciena 10X Transport equipment, and all aspects of fiber.
- Ability to effectively analyze and resolve complex technical challenges and adapt to varied workloads of non-routine tasks.
- Compliance with all company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Willingness to work under unusual surroundings and normal working conditions.
- Cognitive and physical capabilities required to perform essential functions, including strength and endurance for physically demanding tasks.
- Exceptional observational abilities, manual dexterity, meticulous attention to detail, and a patient approach.
- Demonstrated capacity for leadership and ability to communicate clear and precise instructions.
Qualifications
- Valid Class D driver's license.
- TWIC card or other necessary licenses, background checks, and identification.
Schedule
Travel up to 25% may be required. Availability for after-hour call outs to address issues is necessary.
