Position Overview

As the Technology Team Manager, you will oversee the R&D and operations of the technology team. This role requires a fundamental understanding of carbonate chemistry, experience in natural and engineered systems, and a strong scientific aptitude.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the technology team, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and excellence.
  • Set the strategic direction for scientific research programs, ensuring alignment with CREW’s technology goals and carbon removal verification requirements.
  • Oversee laboratory and field operations, including protocols, SOPs, equipment use, troubleshooting, safety, data management, and data quality control.
  • Collaborate closely with CREW’s Product team, including data engineering and biogeochemical modeling, to leverage CREW’s data infrastructure, integrate experimental and operational data, and produce actionable insights.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, and Product teams to ensure seamless integration of R&D outputs into technology deployment.
  • Drive scientific innovation through experimental design, data analysis, and method development.
  • Maintain internal & external relationships, including running meetings, setting agendas, and tracking follow-up items.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of scientific staff.

Experience Requirements

  • PhD or masters in geochemistry, biogeochemistry, environmental sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of proven experience managing and leading a scientific team, ideally within a field and lab research environment.
  • Strong proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, and TIC Analyzer) and experience with statistical programming and geochemical modeling (e.g., Python, R, MatLab, PHREEQC).
  • Extensive experience in conducting field and lab research, including designing and executing experiments, collecting samples, and performing data analysis.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 lbs and adapt to dynamic, fast-paced startup environments.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing startup environment where priorities can shift on a monthly basis.
  • Practice extreme ownership (no task is too small).
  • Love being in the trenches with your team and working with high empathy.
  • Have a growth and adaptive mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postdoctoral or applied experience in a relevant scientific field with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience in startups, especially in early-stage technology development and scaling.
  • Familiarity with carbon removal MRV methodologies or environmental compliance.

Compensation

Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of the total compensation and benefits package. Other benefits for eligible employees may include: equity through the form of option grants, flexible paid time off, 401(k) plan, well equipped office environment, and health benefits offerings. The expected base salary range for this role is $95,000 – $130,000. This range represents the company’s estimate for this position at the time of posting however actual compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, role scope, and business needs.
