Technician III (2424) Nondestructive Testing (NDT) - ATSS

About the role

Evaluates and inspects to applicable standard procedures and criteria, making minor adaptations and modifications. Performs project assignments involving complex features guided by codes, standards, and precedents. Analyzes and evaluates inspection results using prescribed techniques and standards. Tasks require investigation of many variables within the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) field.

Responsibilities

• Provides NDT support for large and small caliber weapon systems, wheeled and tracked vehicles, and materials, delivering detailed analysis and evaluation for various test items.
• Assesses safety and condition of test items, verifies proof acceptance criteria, and ensures reliable test support, requiring knowledge of at least one major NDT method (MT, ET, RT, UT) and NAS-410 certification.
• Follows standard inspection procedures, develops new procedures as necessary, and evaluates material characteristics related to weapon systems and vehicles.
• Devises, modifies, performs, or directs inspections; evaluates and interprets data; prepares written reports summarizing test methods, results, and recommendations.
• Develops NDT evaluation methods for large caliber proof acceptance tests and determines inspection requirements for unique test items.
• Evaluates new instruments, equipment, and materials in the specialty area, including automation of manual methods, to improve testing efficiency and data quality.
• Identifies deficiencies in tests and methods, recommends improvements, and determines instrumentation and system requirements for modernization and acquisition.
• Prepares and updates specifications, standards, and procedures.

Requirements

• 5 years of applicable experience, or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 3 years of applicable experience, or 30 credit hours and 4 years of applicable experience, or completion of a formal training program and 3 years of applicable experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of applicable experience.
• National Aerospace Standard-410 (NAS-410) certification.
• Basic computer skills.
• License to operate forklifts and other required support equipment.
• Overhead Bridge Crane Operator License.
• U.S. citizenship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license without special restrictions.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and periodic retesting.
• Ability to successfully complete a background screening.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance for the duration of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

• Work is performed in an environmentally controlled office and field environment.
• Capable of sitting and using a computer keyboard for extended periods.
• Able to view a computer monitor for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting 25 pounds unassisted.
• Able to perform frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping.
• Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $50.61
