Technician III (2424) Nondestructive Testing (NDT) - ATSS

About the role

Evaluates and inspects to applicable standard procedures and criteria, making minor adaptations and modifications. Performs project assignments involving complex features guided by codes, standards, and precedents. Analyzes and evaluates inspection results using prescribed techniques and standards. Tasks require investigation of many variables.

Responsibilities

• Provides NDT support for large and small caliber weapon systems, wheeled and tracked vehicles, and materials, delivering detailed analysis and evaluation for various test items.
• Assesses safety and condition of test items, verifies proof acceptance criteria, and provides reliable test support.
• Applies knowledge of at least one major NDT method (MT, ET, RT, UT) and NAS-410 certification.
• Follows standard inspection procedures, develops new procedures as needed, and understands material characteristics related to weapon systems and vehicles.
• Evaluates approaches and methods, devises or modifies inspections, interprets data, and prepares written reports summarizing test methods, recommendations, and conclusions.
• Develops and performs NDT evaluation methods for large caliber proof acceptance tests and determines inspection methods for small caliber weapon systems and unique test items.
• Evaluates new instruments, equipment, and materials in the specialty area, including automation of current manual methods, influencing data and testing work across proving grounds, commands, and services.
• Identifies deficiencies in tests and methods, recommends improvements, and enhances efficiencies.
• Determines instrumentation, equipment, and system requirements, providing input for acquisition plans and modernization of existing items.
• Prepares and updates specifications, standards, and procedures.

Requirements

• 5 years of applicable experience, or at least 60 credit hours or an Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience; or 30 credit hours and 4 years of experience; or completion of a formal training program and 3 years of experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year of experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• National Aerospace Standard-410 (NAS-410) certification.
• License to operate forklifts and other required support equipment.
• Overhead Bridge Crane Operator License.
• U.S. citizenship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license without special restrictions.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and periodic retesting.
• Must successfully complete a background screening.
• Must obtain and maintain a security clearance for the duration of employment.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

• Work is performed in an environmentally controlled office and field settings, subject to environmental conditions.
• Capable of sitting and using a computer keyboard for extended periods.
• Able to view a computer monitor for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting 25 pounds unassisted.
• Able to perform frequent squatting, crouching, and stooping.
• Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.

Hourly Rate: $50.61
