Technician II (2424) Nondestructive Testing (NDT) *Temporary* - ATSS

Temporary position until approximately December 31, 2028, located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

About the role

Evaluates and inspects to applicable standard procedures and criteria, making minor adaptations and modifications. Performs project assignments involving complex features guided by codes, standards, and precedents. Analyzes and evaluates inspection results using prescribed techniques and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provides NDT support for large and small caliber weapon systems, wheeled and tracked vehicles, and materials, with detailed analysis and evaluation for various test items.
• Establishes and assesses the safety and condition of test items, verifies proof acceptance criteria, and provides reliable test support.
• Applies knowledge of at least one major NDT method (MT, ET, RT, UT) and maintains NAS-410 certification.
• Follows standard inspection procedures, develops new procedures as necessary, and applies knowledge of material characteristics related to weapon systems and vehicles.
• Evaluates possible approaches and methods, devises or modifies inspections, interprets data, and prepares written reports summarizing test methods, recommendations, and conclusions.
• Develops and performs NDT evaluation methods for large caliber proof acceptance tests and small caliber weapon systems.
• Determines inspection method requirements for unique test items.
• Evaluates new instruments, equipment, and materials in the specialty area, including automation of current manual methods.
• Evaluates tests and methods to identify deficiencies, improvements, and efficiencies.
• Determines instrumentation, equipment, and system requirements, providing input for acquisition and modernization plans.
• Prepares and updates specifications, standards, and procedures.

Requirements

• 3 years of applicable experience, or at least 60 credit hours or an associate’s degree and 1 year of applicable experience; or 30 credit hours and 2 years of applicable experience; or completion of a formal training program and 1 year of applicable experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• National Aerospace Standard-410 (NAS-410) certification.
• License to operate forklifts and other required support equipment.
• Overhead Bridge Crane Operator License.

Physical Qualifications

• Work is performed in an environmentally controlled office and sometimes in the field.
• Capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods.
• Able to view a computer monitor for extended periods.
• Capable of lifting 25 pounds unassisted.
• Able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for assigned tasks.

Terms of Employment

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license without special restrictions.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and periodic retests.

• Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Pay

Hourly Rate: $42.73
