Technical Writer — Knowledge Management

About the role

VisionSpring is seeking a consultant to support the documentation of internal systems, processes, and program materials for our technical assistance work. As this work scales, we are investing in codifying our operational know-how — capturing how we work in a form that serves both our growing teams and the partners we support. Working across our program supply chain, and MERL functions, the consultant will support internal teams to consolidate and update their documentation and identify the content most relevant for partner-facing use. This content will feed into training modules developed as part of the structured technical assistance we provide to partners.

This is not a conventional writing role: it requires someone who understands how global social enterprise programs operate, and who can work alongside busy technical leads to draw out, structure, and document how things are done in practice.

Scope of work

• Support program leads to strengthening and finalizing program guidance for wider use
• Work with the supply chain team to codify systems and workflows and develop priority content for our partner-facing hubs
• Work with the MERL team to codify systems and workflows and develop priority content for our partner-facing hubs

Requirements

Essential criteria (applications will be scored against the following criteria with weightings shown):

• Substantial experience (7+ years) in social enterprise, international development or global project/program delivery, including both HQ and country-level roles — 20%
• Demonstrated experience mapping and documenting operational processes and systems — SOPs, monitoring frameworks, operational guides — in a way others can pick up and use — 25%
• Experience in quality assurance or programmatic compliance within health service delivery — 15%
• Track record of building capacity of program leads and country teams, including developing tools and guidance for others — 15%
• Strong, versatile writing across formats and audiences, evidenced through donor reports, proposals, and operational materials — 15%
• Ability to work independently across multiple concurrent workstreams with minimal supervision — 10%

Desirable:

• Experience of supply chain operations or service delivery channel development in low-resource settings
• Experience developing content for non-specialist or partner-facing audiences
• Familiarity with technical assistance or social enterprise models

Reporting

The consultant will report to the Global Director of Quality Assurance & Partner Success and will work day-to-day with program, supply chain, and MERL leads. Progress updates and draft materials will be submitted according to a schedule agreed at the start of the consultancy.

Terms

• Part-time consultancy: August 2026 – end of March 2027, approximately two days per week
• Remote, with availability for calls across US, UK, and Africa/Asia time zones
• The consultancy fee covers remuneration and all home-working costs; the consultant is responsible for their own equipment
• Any travel or other expenses will be agreed in advance with VisionSpring

Ownership of deliverables

VisionSpring retains ownership of all materials produced during the consultancy. The consultant shall not use, reproduce, or share deliverables without VisionSpring's prior written consent.
