Technical Writer

About the role

Federal is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team. This role involves creating, developing, writing, and editing manuals, reports, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications.

Responsibilities

• Create, develop, and write technical documents including reference manuals and product manuals.
• Edit procedural documentation such as user guides and one-page lessons.
• Revise published materials based on redlines and recommendations from supervisors or others.
• Create parts and operational manuals for legacy equipment using bill of materials, assembly drawings, and research.
• Revise manuals when conversions or upgrades occur.
• Gather feedback from customers, engineers, manufacturing, and field service to improve technical documents.
• Assess audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjust tone and technical terms to ensure understanding.
• Support other Company initiatives such as team boards, 5S documentation, and safety video editing.
• Organize material and complete documentation assignments according to set standards regarding timeline, order, clarity, style, and terminology.
• Take video footage of machines running in a simulated production mode, prior to shipment.
• Take photographs of equipment on the shop floor for record-keeping and documentation purposes.
• Create machine-specific videos based on individual requests from the Sales or Marketing Department; these videos may include graphics, design work, audio, and narration.
• Support other Company initiatives such as team boards, 5S documentation, and safety video editing.
• Update and record all machine checklists including electrical data sheets supplied by Manufacturing; maintain records and files of work following ProMach standards and procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, English, Technical Writing, or related field.
• At least 3 years of related work experience.
• Knowledge of CAD software like SolidWorks, SolidWorks Composer, or AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent writing and grammatical skills.
• Excellent photographic and videographic editing skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
• Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues.

The pay range for this role is determined based on years of directly relatable experience. Total compensation includes your salary, potential short-term incentive opportunities, and benefits.
