About the role
The Technical Writer reports to and receives work direction derivatives from the Project Manager. The Technical Writer shall analyze service level policy and guidance, review and propose comments to technical documents, provide recommendations, and review of all Marine Corps RTA and Special Use Airspace documentation.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical analysis and documentation services to support the update process for RTAM sponsored orders and publications that provide service-level guidance for the Marine Corps Range Program.

- MCO 3550.10, Policies and Procedures for Range and Training Area Management
- MCO 3550.12A, Operational Range Clearance
- MCO 3570.1D, Range Safety
- Marine Corps Reference Publication 3-0C, Operational Training Ranges
- Update the annual Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Sustainable Ranges Report and other like OSD documents with changes provided by the COR.
- Review and provide recommendations to ensure the Installation Range Management Plan addresses the introduction of new doctrine, force structure, and equipment and assesses deficiencies in the current inventory of training ranges.
- Attend the OSD Personnel & Readiness quarterly Sustainable Ranges Working Integrated Process Team either in person or virtually in order to capture meeting minutes and prepare draft responses to meeting taskers.
- Review and propose comments to TECOM technical documents listed below.
- Attend the annual Range Program Review and the quarterly Mission Capable Ranges Working Group.
- Provide technical analysis and comments to the COR on range safety-related documents published by DoD, FAA, OPNAV, and Marine Corps, as well as range instructions, documents, and initiatives for impacts to Marine Corps range safety/management policy.
- Provide comments to the COR on range communication, training systems, and instrumented range requirements to ensure safe range operations.
- Provide comments to the COR on Marine Corps Installations that have special activity airspace to ensure that ranges are operating within local agreements and Federal policy.
Requirements
- A High School diploma or equivalent is the minimum acceptable education, a Bachelor’s Degree in English or another applicable field is preferred.
- Candidates should have at least five (5) years of experience in a discipline related to general administration, writing, business or an equivalent combination thereof.
- Knowledge of RTAM section and program management is required for this position.

Working Conditions

- Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.
- All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
Security Clearance
- A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
Estimated Compensation
$70,000-$170,000
