Technical Training Instructor

Location: Klondike Training Center, Stonecrest, GA. Individuals living more than 60 miles from Klondike may be eligible for hotel lodging. A company car will be provided for commuting and business use only.

About the role

This Technical Training Instructor supports the Power Delivery Distribution Training organization by delivering and maintaining training programs focused on Basic Line Skills and New Hire Journeymen Programs. These programs cover craft and technical skills from entry-level through journeyman, including building, operating, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage utility distribution lines, equipment, and systems.

The role involves organizing and structuring training materials, developing new training programs, policies, and procedures, and engaging in new hire strategies through partnerships with technical colleges, workforce development camps, and other outreach programs. Additional responsibilities include serving on committees, investigative teams, writing technical documents, and providing storm duty support as needed.

Travel throughout Georgia and the Southern Company’s regions is required, including some overnights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Champion safety by demonstrating, teaching, coaching, and leading by example.
• Develop and maintain training programs as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Power Delivery Organization.
• Review student performance and provide developmental feedback.
• Provide subject matter expertise on work methods, materials, equipment, and tools for construction, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage utility distribution systems.
• Serve as a liaison to field representatives to resolve technical and operational issues.
• Contribute technical expertise to various committee assignments.
• Support storm restoration as an FRC/ACS or provide damage assessment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in Overhead and Underground Distribution Construction and Maintenance; lone worker experience is a plus.
• Minimum of 6 years of line experience, including at least 2 years as a Journeyman.
• Previous experience in a training role delivering presentations to groups or in a classroom setting is preferred.
• Valid Class A driver’s license.
• Demonstrated climbing skills.
• At least one year of verifiable driving experience as a licensed driver; no revocation of driving privileges within the last 36 months, no major traffic violations within the last 12 months, and no pending charges for major violations.
• Must consent to continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.
