Technical Training Instructor

Location: Klondike Training Center, Stonecrest, GA. Individuals living more than 60 miles from Klondike may be eligible for hotel lodging. A company car will be provided for commuting and company business.

About the role

This Technical Training Instructor supports the Power Delivery Distribution Training organization, focusing on delivering and maintaining training programs for Basic Line Skill and New Hire Journeymen Programs. These programs cover craft and technical skills from entry-level through journeyman, including building, operating, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage utility distribution lines, equipment, and systems.

The role involves organizing and structuring training materials, developing new training programs, policies, and procedures, and engaging in new hire strategies through partnerships with technical colleges, workforce development camps, and other programs. Additional responsibilities include serving on committees, participating in investigative teams, and writing technical documents for the distribution organization.

Travel throughout Georgia and the Southern Company’s regions is required, including some overnights and weekends. The incumbent must also support extended storm duty as needed.

Responsibilities

• Champion safety by demonstrating, teaching, coaching, and leading by example.
• Work with Training Support Services to develop and maintain training programs as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Power Delivery Organization.
• Review student performance and provide developmental feedback.
• Provide subject matter expertise on work methods, materials, equipment, and tools related to the construction, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage utility distribution systems.
• Serve as a liaison to field representatives to resolve technical and operational issues.
• Provide technical expertise on various committee assignments.
• Serve as an FRC/ACS during storm restoration or provide damage assessment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in Overhead and Underground Distribution Construction and Maintenance; lone worker experience is a plus.
• Minimum of 6 years of line experience preferred, with at least 2 years of experience as a Journeyman.
• Previous experience in a training role delivering presentations to groups or in a classroom setting is a plus.
• Valid Class A driver’s license.
• Demonstrated climbing skills.

Additional Requirements

This position requires the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. If selected, the following conditions apply:

• At least one year of verifiable driving experience as a licensed driver (permits are not accepted).
• No revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application.
• No convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for major traffic violations.
• Must consent to continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.
