About the role

The Technical Sales Engineer/Specialist plays a supporting role in the Engineering and Sales Support Teams. These teams provide pre- and post-sales technical support for complex products, applications, and solutions. This role reports to the Engineered Solution Supervisor of the Water Infrastructure – Transport division.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-sales technical support during feasibility, design, and tender stages to outside sales, distributors, and consulting engineers.
  • Aid in preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions.
  • Assist the Engineering Team in researching and gathering data to understand consultancy needs or solve customer problems.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues, subject matter experts, and technical and commercial resources to review tender documents.
  • Contribute as a technical consultant in efforts to prepare and review project bid packages.
  • Advise the sales team on technical requests and implications related to the project.
  • Support the sales team in the quotation creation process for engineered projects.
  • Ensure the proposal is technically viable and feasible.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Team to prepare and review technical submittals on time and follow up with customer for approval.
  • Address customer questions on drawings submitted and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Support project managers in providing technical solutions to customers and Engineers.
  • Participate in application training for customer service and operations.
  • Support the application engineers in conducting application training for customer service and operations.
  • Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • 0-2+ years of relevant experience, with Engineer-in-training (EIT) and recent graduates welcome.
  • Ability to use consistent business processes to achieve desired results, including ability to react appropriately and timely to changing business needs.
  • Willingness and ability to provide superior customer service.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, including effective interpersonal skills with customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Strong teamwork and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the use of computer applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical engineering or automation degree.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and pumping designs, hydraulics, pneumatics, water flow, diesel, gas, and electric motors.
