About the role

The Technical Sales Engineer/Specialist plays a supporting role in the Engineering and Sales Support Teams. These teams provide pre- and post-sales technical support for the development and implementation of complex products, applications, and solutions. This role reports to the Engineered Solution Supervisor in the Water Infrastructure – Transport division.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre-sales technical support during feasibility, design, and tender stages to outside sales, distributors, and consulting engineers.
  • Aid in preparing detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions.
  • Assist in reviewing tender documents, preparing quotations, and ensuring proposal technical viability.
  • Support the sales team in the preparation and review of project bid packages.
  • Contribute as a technical consultant in efforts to prepare and review project bid packages.
  • Advise sales team on technical requests and implications related to the project.
  • Work closely with internal colleagues, subject matter experts, and technical and commercial resources to review tender documents.
  • Ensure submitted drawings are compliant and address customer questions on drawings submitted.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to ensure customer requirements are fully met.
  • Support project managers in providing technical solutions to customers and engineers.
  • Provide support to application engineers in conducting application training for customer service and operations.
  • Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • 0-2+ years of relevant experience, with Engineer-in-training (EIT) and recent graduates welcome.
  • Ability to use consistent business processes to achieve desired results, including ability to react appropriately and timely to changing business needs.
  • Willingness and ability to always provide superior customer service.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Strong teamwork and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the use of computer applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of mechanical and pumping designs; hydraulics; pneumatics; water flow; diesel, gas, and electric motors.

Skills

Basic knowledge of required systems and products, including creating and interpreting engineering drawings, production specifications, and testing protocols using CAD, CAM, or CAE systems. Reviewing and interpreting tender documents with attention to detail, technical specifications, product datasheets, and proposal-related documents. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly convey ideas to technical and non-technical audiences. Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative team player who can build strong working relationships across departments and with external partners. Confident and professional presence, with the ability to present information effectively in meetings and customer interactions. Solid project management skills, including planning, coordination, and follow-through to ensure successful outcomes.
