TEACHER (HIGH SCHOOL-GENERAL EDUCATION) (CORRECTIONAL FACILITY)

About the role
This full-time permanent teaching position is located at Salinas Valley State Prison (SVSP) in Soledad, CA. SVSP is conveniently located right off Highway 101, near communities such as Soledad, Greenfield, Gonzales, Salinas, and Hollister, with easy access to Monterey Beach, Carmel, and San Jose International Airport.
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs, the Academic Teacher provides both individual and group instruction, supervises inmate conduct in the classroom, and may assume general custodial responsibilities in emergencies. Responsibilities include controlling materials and equipment, preparing courses of study and lesson plans, counseling students on progress, setting educational goals, participating in program evaluation, inspecting work areas, and searching students for contraband.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group instruction to inmates.
- Supervise inmate conduct in the classroom and assume custodial responsibilities during emergencies.
- Control all materials and equipment that may be used as weapons.
- Prepare courses of study and daily lesson plans.
- Counsel students on their progress in the instructional program and help them set and meet educational goals.
- Participate in program evaluation.
- Inspect work areas and search students for contraband.
- Plan, assign, and supervise work.
Requirements
- Must have a valid credential in the specific subject or be in the process of filing for the appropriate CTE credential.
- Completion of educational courses as specified in the Class Specification.
- Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If meeting qualifications with education, unofficial transcripts/diploma must be included for verification.
- Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice must submit to a background investigation, Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment, with annual testing thereafter.
- All staff may be required to show evidence of full vaccination and booster for COVID-19, absent an approved reasonable medical or religious accommodation.
- Applicants with foreign degrees/transcripts must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency.

Pay
Salary range: $6,387.52 - $12,847.82 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
