TEACHER (HIGH SCHOOL-GENERAL EDUCATION) (CORRECTIONAL FACILITY)
Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment will be considered for this position.
About the role
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction and indirect supervision of the Supervisor of Correctional Education Programs (SCEP), incumbents help persons committed to State correctional facilities prepare to become productive and contributing members of society by training them in academic subjects and by helping them to develop socially acceptable attitudes and interests.
The teacher gives individual and group instruction, conducts assessments and testing, and participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team. The teacher has responsibility for supervising the conduct of students while in the classroom and may be called upon to assume general custody responsibilities in times of emergency.
Incumbents are required to maintain a valid teaching credential recognized by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group instruction in academic subjects.
- Conduct assessments and testing for students.
- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Supervise student conduct in the classroom.
- Assume general custody responsibilities during emergencies.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid teaching credential recognized by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Meet the Minimum Qualifications as stated in the Class Specification.
- If meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, include unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment.
- Candidates with foreign degrees/transcripts must obtain and submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency.
- Submit to a background investigation utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting.
- Complete a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by annual testing thereafter.
Working Conditions
High Desert State Prison is located approximately eight miles east of the town of Susanville, or about a 1 hour 30-minute drive northwest of Reno, Nevada.
Pay
$6,387.52 - $12,847.82 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
