About the role
This position will report to the Region V office in Plainview, TX, and will be responsible for planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating agriculture program activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and recommend program guidelines, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Monitor compliance with policies and procedures
- Participate in the development of program goals and objectives
- Prepare and review reports on the effectiveness of program production activities
- Conduct special investigations, program analyses, and research studies and recommend improvements
- Prepare program budget requests
- Confer with staff on agriculture production and contract issues and problems to identify and implement solutions
- Provide training and technical assistance in the program areas
- Assign and supervise the work of others
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE)
- Five years full-time, wage-earning agriculture or food science program administration experience
- Two years full-time, wage-earning experience in the supervision of employees
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with major course work in Agriculture, Food Science, or a related field
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and management
- Knowledge of farm and ranch management methods
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Skill in administrative problem-solving techniques
- Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports
