TDCJ - Program Supervisor IV - Mechanical

About the Role

This position reports to the Wynne Unit Mechanical Shop on a daily basis. Duties include oversight of mechanical shop operations and staff, and direct supervision of incarcerated inmates. This mechanical shop is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the TDCJ heavy-duty fleet, including transportation buses, freight trucks, and equipment. Day-to-day functions include oversight of mechanical operations, security of the shop, procurement functions, and administrative duties.

Responsibilities

• Oversee mechanical shop operations and staff
• Directly supervise incarcerated inmates
• Maintain and repair TDCJ heavy-duty fleet (transportation buses, freight trucks, and equipment)
• Ensure security of the shop
• Handle procurement functions
• Perform administrative duties

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• Six years of full-time wage-earning experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance or repair, or metal forming and fabricating
• Commitment to accomplishing goals
• Desire to build and lead a team
• Ability to prioritize development of staff
• Problem-solving skills and ability to develop long-term solutions

Additional Information

• Retiree salary will be 2.5% less than the posted salary
• Travel required: 25% (position may spend 15 nights away per month)
