Tax Managing Director, Core Tax Services
About the role
The Tax Managing Director is responsible for advising clients on tax implications, evaluating alternative actions, and resolving complex tax issues. They also serve as a key member of the leadership team and actively participate in business development.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and ensures self and client service teams comply with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Research: Identifies and conducts necessary research, clearly reports findings, and provides research methodology for efficient processes.
- Tax Accruals: Applies Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual to correctly and proactively apply FAS 109 and FIN 48, and reviews and applies income tax provisions efficiently.
- Tax Consulting: Assists in developing and implementing efficient methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing taxes.
- Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation, advises clients on tax implications, and recommends alternative courses of action.
- Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client positions, the Firm, or Firm personnel.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates, senior associates, and managers, schedules and manages workload, and provides performance feedback.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a major in a related field.
- Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- At least ten (10) years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or the equivalent of one of these designations) required.
