About the role

The Tax Managing Director is responsible for advising clients on tax implications, evaluating alternative actions, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. This role involves direct supervision, marketing, and networking activities.

Responsibilities

  • Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens. Manages engagements to meet engagement management metrics.
  • Research: Identifies and conducts necessary research, clearly framing issues and reporting analyses. Identifies complex issues and provides research methodologies.
  • Tax Consulting: Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing taxes or expenses. Applies technical expertise to resolve issues.
  • Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of specific areas of taxation, such as international, SALT, estate planning, and others. Advises clients on tax implications and recommends alternative courses of action.
  • Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to benefit clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel. May present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates, senior associates, and managers. Reviews work, provides feedback, schedules workload, and acts as a career advisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a related field.
  • Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or equivalent) required.

  • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals.
  • Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
