Tax Managing Director, Core Tax Services
About the role
The Tax Managing Director is responsible for advising clients on tax implications, evaluating alternative actions, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. They also serve as a key member of the leadership team and actively participate in business development.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens. Manages engagements to meet engagement management metrics.
- Research: Identifies and conducts necessary research, clearly reporting findings and complex issues to be researched.
- Tax Consulting: Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing taxes or expenses.
- Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation, advises clients on tax implications, and recommends alternative courses of action.
- Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve client positions, the Firm, or Firm personnel.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates, senior associates, and managers, schedules and manages workload, and provides performance feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, or a related field.
- Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
- At least ten (10) years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent certification (or equivalent).
Qualifications
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and develop and manage a team of tax professionals.
- Capable of composing written tax advice and developing and maintaining client relationships.
SkillsProficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Benefits
Annual salary range varies by location, ranging from $175,000 to $350,000, depending on experience and qualifications. BDO is committed to providing a competitive compensation package, including the opportunity to participate in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
