Switchboard PBX Operator PRN

About the Role

As a Switchboard PBX Operator PRN at Reston Hospital Center, you will answer and route all calls promptly, courteously, and accurately. You will also monitor essential alarm systems and initiate responses to activations.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ability to operate the console unit promptly and efficiently.
• Accurately identify and take appropriate action for emergencies, including Code Red (fire), Code Blue (CPR), Code Yellow (disaster), and bomb threats.
• Properly use the paging system while exercising discretion to minimize paging.
• Monitor all alarm systems (fire, oxygen, burglar, vacuum, etc.) and take appropriate action in the event of an alarm activation.
• Maintain an up-to-date roster of patient room assignments and refer all patient information calls to the appropriate designated person.
• Treat all information obtained as confidential and communicate it only through designated administrative channels.
• Maintain a listing of department extensions and a current directory of department heads.

Requirements

• 1 year of switchboard operator or customer service experience is preferred.
• Medical terminology knowledge is a plus.
