Surgery Scheduling Clerk

Under direct supervision, schedules patients for pre-operative tests and appointments, distributes prescribed pre-operative exam forms, provides telephone coverage and reception, and manages surgery schedule distribution.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and reschedules patients for all pre-operative appointments based on surgery date and nature.
• Contacts patients to coordinate prescribed appointments and preoperative diagnostic tests within the appropriate timeframe.
• Types and mails instructional letters to pre-operative patients regarding surgical procedures and policies.
• Prepares, distributes, collects, and maintains all pre-operative lab, X-ray, EKG reports, and other forms.
• Receives and records surgery cancellations and scheduling changes.
• Distributes daily surgery schedules to various personnel per established distribution list.
• Provides telephone and in-person reception, responding to patient and physician questions, screening calls, and relaying messages.
• Performs additional duties such as typing, filing, ordering supplies, accessing patient information, compiling statistics, and duplicating copies.
• Informs department personnel of cancellations and scheduling changes.

Requirements

• Six (6) months of medical office experience, including knowledge of medical terminology and multi-line phones.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Typing speed of 35 words per minute.
• May travel 50% to San Marcos.

Pay

$28.54 - $33.36 / hour

Garfield Specialty Center, San Diego, California. Worker location must align with Kaiser Permanente's Authorized States policy.
