About the role

This position focuses on coordinating Workers' Compensation claims and scheduling in an orthopedics setting, serving as the primary liaison between patients, physicians, and external departments.

Responsibilities

  • Handle all Workers' Comp scheduling for patients, including pre-op and post-op appointments, verifying insurance, obtaining surgery authorizations, and health clearances.
  • Ensure all pre-op studies are scheduled and completed, and that clinical staff and OR times are scheduled for procedures.
  • Review risks and benefits of surgery/procedure with patients per physician orders and enroll patients in appropriate pre-surgery education classes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for patients, acting as a liaison between the physician, patient, and other internal/external departments.
  • Provide resource and support to patients before, during, and after surgery, responding to inquiries and addressing complaints with service recovery or escalation as needed.
  • Ensure all arrangements for surgical procedures are made, including obtaining special equipment requested by the physician.
  • Provide concierge coordination between the office and patient designee.
  • Manage physician referral work queues by completing referrals.
  • Handle physician correspondence, forms, authorization requests, calendar management, and transcription needs.
  • Prepare charts and review/update demographics and insurance information.
  • Collaborate with the billing team to provide audit information and ensure surgical reports and charges are sent to billing.
  • Work with Workers' Comp adjusters and case managers on authorization requests and follow up to ensure completion of documentation.
  • Provide clinical or administrative support based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of experience with Workers' Compensation claims.
  • Experience with Epic EMR.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Patient Service Representative (PSR) or Medical Assistant (MA) preferred.
  • Orthopedics setting experience preferred.
