SUPV IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN)

This position is in the Cyber Excepted Service (CES) under 10 USC 1599f and does not convey eligibility for conversion to the Competitive Service. It is a mission-critical role supporting the U.S. Cyber Command, classified under the Supervision/Management Work Category at the Full Performance Level.

Responsibilities

• Persuade or influence others to gain concurrence on major issues affecting the supervised organization.
• Plan and supervise the work of a unit with clearly defined programs and established organizational structure.
• Develop work schedules and sequences of operations for assigned personnel to ensure deadlines are met and workflow is balanced.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance; access to classified information may be required. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
• Must complete Foundational Qualifications within 9 months and Residential Qualification requirements within 12 months per DoD 8140 policy series.
• Designated as "Mission Essential"; incumbent may be required to report to work or relocate within the U.S. during local or national emergencies.
• Subject to recall or call-back during off-shift hours, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, if required by upper management.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the following basic requirements through experience (paid, unpaid, volunteer, or military service):

• Attention to Detail: Experience reviewing IT-related work or data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards.
• Customer Service: Experience maintaining customer relationships, assessing IT needs, and developing tailored IT products or services.
• Oral Communication: Experience briefing mid-level management and IT staff on system status, projects, or operations, including translating technical information for non-technical audiences.
• Problem Solving: Experience identifying solutions to complex IT issues by gathering and applying information from multiple sources.

For the GG-13 level, qualifying experience includes:

• Leading teams in managing enterprise hardware and software within established goals.
• Implementing strategic initiatives supporting on-premise or cloud infrastructure operations.

Education

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG-13 grade level.

• This position is in the Excepted Service and does not confer eligibility for conversion to the Competitive Service.
• Current federal employees will be placed on an Excepted appointment; this does not confer eligibility for non-competitive conversion to the competitive service.
• A three-year trial period may be required if not previously completed in the excepted or competitive service.
• Subject to a one-year probationary period for supervisory positions.
• Telework availability is mission-dependent and subject to supervisory approval.
• Tentatively selected candidates will undergo urinalysis for illegal drugs prior to appointment.
