Hiring Department: Information Technology - Security. The Information Technology Department supports administrative systems, academic technologies, and research computing. System reliability and campus operations are strengthened through IT initiatives. IT roles involve system support, infrastructure maintenance, and technical collaboration with campus units.

About the role

This on-site professional information technology position spans a wide range of in-depth engineering of servers and end-user devices, including computer, server, and peripheral hardware and software installation, configuration, optimization, and large-scale systems management. This position is generally structured to be second and third-tier support to other user and system support functions. A high degree of interaction with people is involved; sound customer service principles must be applied while fulfilling the technical function.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site support for desktop systems, including laptop computers and networked printers.
• Update trouble tickets with problem description, status, and resolution.
• Design, develop, and document processes and any changes/updates needed to maintain functionality and security.
• Provide desktop/server administration related to group policies, patching, and campus OS software updates.
• Analyze software, tools, scripts, programs, and logs to create and test solutions before implementation.
• Modify computer systems with automation and scripting, creating images for various locations or customer needs.
• Programming/development: build services via programming and development, review others' programming for troubleshooting, and create tools to simplify and improve delivery of desktop and server utilities.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of desktop/workstation hardware, software, and operating systems (configuration and connectivity).
• Technical knowledge and aptitude in networks, network file servers, applicable software, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Experience with automated software tools to distribute software, implement security settings, and enforce policies across computers or users.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with a variety of users and technical staff.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Proficient with file server and domain administration, including system installation, configuration, and administration.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience with Active Directory administration, Group Policy Manager, and MS Configuration Manager (SCCM), JAMF.
• Two or more years of exposure to operating systems: Linux, Windows, MacOS.
• Two or more years of experience with a scripting language such as PowerShell, Perl, Python, etc., and knowledge of packaging scripts for image and application automated installations.
• WQL reporting experience is a plus.
• Solid understanding of, and experience with, virtual environments such as VMware and/or KVM-based hypervisors.
• Preferred candidate would possess a degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or comparable field of study or equivalent experience.

Pay

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $54,000 - $69,576 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

Schedule

This position is on-site 5 days a week; no remote exceptions.
