About the role

Arrange, track, and communicate the status of transportation for customer goods on both pickup and delivery sides. This includes outbound from suppliers and HUB locations, inbound to Armada’s redistribution facilities, customer distribution centers, and manufacturing centers. Utilize Armada’s preferred carriers and systems, including the Transportation Management System (TMS), to optimize service, secure capacity, and determine the best mode of transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Assign and tender shipments to Armada’s preferred carriers using the Transportation Management System (TMS) to optimize service, capacity, and cost.
  • Coordinate dedicated and continuous move tenders as appropriate.
  • Manually tender loads not accepted through the TMS waterfall carrier selection by calling carriers to verbally secure capacity.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure on-time pickup using the TMS; proactively follow up to secure desired service results and communicate issues to all parties.
  • Utilize 24TRACC to access the Loads at Risk application and carrier websites to identify late pickups or deliveries.
  • Coordinate first-response activity to resolve pickup and in-transit issues; escalate to appropriate managers or senior staff as needed.
  • Assist carriers in resolving loading, pickup appointment issues, and communicate with relevant parties.
  • Coordinate carrier or supplier date change requests.
  • Support shipping/receiving locations with carrier issues, trailer pool coordination, rush shipment arrangements, and problem resolution; escalate chronic issues to management.
  • Document all supplier and carrier issues and correspondence in the TMS to create a timeline of events and resolutions.
  • Manage MercuryGate (TMS) notifications and network email communication via Microsoft Outlook.
  • Work within a weekend shift rotation and rotate into alternative shifts during the week as needed.
  • Manually enter orders into the TMS when applicable and manage pending orders for assigned regions/suppliers.
  • Handle carrier rate reviews as needed.
  • Analyze existing shipping processes for improvements and support implementation plans for ongoing productivity gains; develop and manage supplier relationships.
  • Analyze carrier routing guides and capacity utilization to adjust system parameters for cost savings and service improvements; develop and manage carrier relationships.
  • Use the Transportation Planning Tool (TPT) to consolidate LTL shipments into truckloads to improve transit times, customer service, and reduce transportation costs.
  • Coordinate return disposition of refused or returned goods as required.
  • Maintain excellent communication and service with shipping locations and carriers via phone and email.
  • Understand all Operational Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the Business Continuity Plan (BCP).
  • Escalate issues requiring placement on a Watch List.

Requirements

  • 1–5 years of experience in customer service or transportation; operations experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Supply Chain, or Logistics preferred.
  • Experience with one or more transportation modes: LTL, Intermodal, temperature-controlled, or dry truckload preferred.
  • General understanding of business and transportation terms and concepts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel; familiarity with Access and TMS applications preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for internal and external clients.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is typically performed in an office environment with normal noise levels. The role involves prolonged sitting and extensive computer/phone usage.
