SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER.

About the Role

You will serve as the primary representative of the Engineering and Planning Department, guiding, coordinating, monitoring, and reporting on engineering and planning efforts for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Shipyard efforts associated with pre-overhaul tests, inspections, and ship-checks.
• Resolve issues or conflicts occurring during development of the work package, such as overlapping functions.
• Supervise assigned personnel to ensure production and accuracy requirements are met.
• Work with assigned Project Management personnel to develop a Plan of Action and Milestones for successful project completion.
• Represent the Project Engineering Manager and the Integrated Planning Manager at project-oriented meetings involving status, performance, or progress.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level (time-in-grade requirement).
• Appointment of retired military members within 180 days of retirement to a civilian position is subject to provisions of 5 U.S. Code 3326.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites. Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
• Supervisors must review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include planning and coordinating ship or submarine maintenance, repair, modernization, or overhaul projects.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements:

• Successful completion of a professional engineering degree from a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
• Alternatively, a degree that includes differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas:
  • statics, dynamics;
  • strength of materials (stress-strain relationships);
  • fluid mechanics, hydraulics;
  • thermodynamics;
  • electrical fields and circuits;
  • nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); or
  • any comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics.
• Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board.
• Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program.
• Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, provided the applicant has at least one year of professional engineering experience under professional supervision.
