Supervisory General Engineer.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter. TDY or business travel is 5% of the time. A one-year probationary period is required unless previously completed. A Secret Security Clearance is required. This position is designated as Mission Essential.

Responsibilities

• Use creativity and experienced judgment to extend traditional techniques or develop new ones to solve complex system preventive maintenance or repair problems.
• Serve as senior technical advisor and manager of the installation preventative maintenance programs within the Operations and Maintenance Division.
• Review preliminary and final contract drawings, cost estimates, design analyses, specifications, and other technical data for conformity to garrison and special requirements.
• Serve as senior technical advisor and manager of the installations privatized utility programs within the Operations and Maintenance Division.
• Oversee and implement the installation's energy management program.
• Manage complex, non-standard engineering projects or utility systems.
• Act as a technical liaison between facilities operations and senior management to align building repairs and maintenance with future mission goals.
• Develop creative engineering techniques to solve highly difficult maintenance problems.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent, including:
  • Managing complex, non-standard engineering projects or utility systems.
  • Serving as a technical liaison between facilities operations and senior management.
  • Developing creative engineering techniques to solve highly difficult maintenance problems.
• No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this position.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. If qualifying based on education, transcripts will be required.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory General Engineer:

• Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering from a program accredited by ABET, or
• Includes differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas:
  • statics, dynamics;
  • strength of materials (stress-strain relationships);
  • fluid mechanics, hydraulics;
  • thermodynamics;
  • electrical fields and circuits;
  • nature and properties of materials;
  • any comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics (e.g., optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics).

• Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that provided:
  • a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and
  • a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
  The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
  • Professional registration or licensure (e.g., Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE)).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or equivalent.
  • At least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences (including those specified above).
  • A bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) plus at least 1 year of professional engineering experience under supervision.

Foreign Education:

If using foreign education to qualify, credentials must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in foreign education equivalency. Full credit must be given for courses at a U.S. accredited institution. More information.
