About the Role

This position serves as the Unit Chief over the Payroll and Benefit Services Unit (PBSU), supporting CDPH’s mission and strategic plan. The Supervisor I oversees daily operations, supervises and evaluates staff, manages special projects, and assists with work plans and deadlines. The role involves directing personnel, payroll, disability, and benefit services, including State Disability Insurance (SDI) and Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI). The incumbent will speak at program meetings, staff trainings, and quarterly Attendance Coordinator (AC) and Personnel Liaison (PL) meetings.

This position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which temporarily reduces the monthly base pay by 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown do not reflect this reduction.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Payroll and Benefit Services Unit (PBSU).
• Supervise and evaluate subordinate staff providing personnel, payroll, disability, and benefit services.
• Manage and direct special projects, assist with work plan development, and monitor deadlines.
• Direct the workload of Analyst I/II’s, Senior Personnel Specialists (Sr. PS), and supporting staff.
• Assist staff with day-to-day payroll and benefit services, including SDI and NDI.
• Speak publicly at program meetings, staff trainings, and quarterly AC/PL meetings.

Pay

$7,172.00 - $8,910.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, if applicable.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position. Hybrid telework arrangement.
