About the role

This position may be filled on Oahu, Maui, or Hawaii Island. The Professional Supervisor will supervise, plan, organize, and direct the functions and activities of a project management section to ensure that all Energy Delivery capital project and/or program deadlines, budget planning & forecasting requirements, construction standards, governmental standards, and service levels are met or exceeded upon project closure. The role provides direction, technical knowledge, expertise, guidance, and support to Project Managers and serves as a mentor.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, supervises, and directs the functions and activities of the Project Managers to provide support to major Energy Delivery capital projects and/or programs.
  • Provides technical knowledge, expertise, and guidance to the Project & Program Management Department.
  • Evaluates progress and performance of the Department and implements actions necessary to achieve/maintain project and/or program scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Initiates, assigns, conducts, reviews, and approves project scope, schedule, budget, allocation of risks, and contingencies for projects.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to determine annual and multi-year targets and plans for program work.
  • Assesses progress and performance of Project Managers and makes recommendations regarding performance actions necessary to accomplish project and/or program objectives.
  • Meets, discusses, coordinates, and negotiates with internal and external parties to maintain/expedite progress on projects and programs.
  • Serves as a technical consultant to the Department, Division, Process Area, and other management in the Company.
  • Manages and administers all personnel matters of the Department, including performance appraisals, interviews, recognition of employee achievements, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensures the safety and coordinates the training of all personnel under supervision.
  • Supports the Manager, Project & Program Management in the development of systems, processes, procedures, and other activities to facilitate the smooth and effective functioning of the Department.
  • Develops and improves processes, procedures, information technology, decision support tools, and reporting systems to facilitate effective and efficient execution of job responsibilities.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned.

Requirements

  • 4-year college degree required; advanced college degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of project management, program management, standards development, engineering, and construction practices associated with electric utility facilities and systems.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification from a nationally recognized organization such as the Project Management Institute (PMI) is highly desirable.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical branch or certified as a Planner by a nationally recognized professional society such as the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as MS Project, UI Planner, Ellipse, DARS, SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Access, etc.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures related to land development activities for electric utility operations.
  • Working knowledge of Company budgeting and forecasting systems and procedures.

  • Personal: Expert ability to plan, prioritize, schedule, and manage time to meet deadlines while handling multiple assignments and adapting to changing priorities. Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license and meet company driving standards.

Experience

  • Several (3-5) years of supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Extensive (8+ years) experience as a project manager, construction manager, designer, or engineer, with large complex projects, preferably within the electric utility industry.
  • Several (3-5) years of project management experience for small to large engineering/construction projects.
  • Several (3-5) years of experience with regulatory, social, and public affairs processes related to land use issues (e.g., neighborhood boards, community groups, government agencies, political leaders, media).

Pay

The hiring range for this position is $109,900.00 to $142,600.00. The selected candidate will be placed according to skills and qualifications.
