About the role

The Colburn School is a world-renowned performing arts institution located in downtown Los Angeles. Its mission is to provide the highest quality performing arts education at all levels of development in music and dance, and to foster a vibrant community through a wide range of performances, events, and educational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains up to date knowledge of CSPA policies, procedures, and practices as well as recital and performance schedules and related logistical details.
  • Promptly responds to inquiries from parents, students and faculty members regarding these matters, providing complete and accurate information.
  • Registers students for individual and group classes as appropriate, ensuring they are qualified for the class selected including completion of any prerequisites.
  • Performs administrative duties including the maintenance of files, preparation of letters, drafting written correspondence, and creating spreadsheets as assigned.
  • Auxiliary duties may include scheduling auditions, renting instruments, and processing new student inquiries. May also assist with recitals and/or performances.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of general office administrative procedures.
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven commitment to quality customer service.
  • Ability to deal with a wide variety of individuals in person, via telephone, and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and handle multiple tasks, despite numerous interruptions.
  • Capable of working well independently and in teams.
  • High level of diplomacy, tact, and discretion.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible attitude and approach towards work assignments.
  • Strong PC skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.

Preferred Background

  • Background in music, performing arts, and/or arts administration, which may be obtained either as a student, volunteer, or professional work experience.
  • College degree preferred, or currently enrolled and in the process of obtaining one.
  • Ideal candidate will be fluent in spoken Spanish.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to see, hear, feel, and use hands to type and grasp objects with fingers.
  • Primarily sedentary with intermittent standing, walking, bending, and stooping; occasional light lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25 pounds or less; light to heavy repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms while working on a computer.
  • Ability to concentrate on detailed tasks for extended periods of time and/or intermittently while attending to other responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure on multiple tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines and changing priorities.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily indoor office environment;
  • Frequent contact with and interruptions by individuals in person or by phone.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a part-time, non-exempt, on-site position with a regular working schedule of 22.5 hours per week, three days a week.
  • The pay range is $20.00 – 23.00 per hour depending on skills, experience, and ability level.
