About the role

Student Outreach & Support Representatives serve as ambassadors for the University of Oklahoma, the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences (AGS), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This position is the first point of contact for the AGS Dean’s Office, providing exceptional customer service to visitors, callers, faculty, staff, and students. You will create a welcoming environment while handling inquiries and completing tasks such as creating infographics, processing tour requests, tracking and restocking inventory, and leading solo tours of the National Weather Center. Tours require projecting your voice to large groups, maintaining professionalism, and engaging diverse audiences through fun, factual storytelling. The role also assists the Outreach Coordinator with on-site and off-site outreach events, which may occur outside Norman and during nights or weekends. Punctuality, adherence to rules, and following procedures are expected. This position offers opportunities to develop skills in outreach, public speaking, communication, coordination, customer service, and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the AGS Dean’s Office, providing exceptional customer service to visitors, callers, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Create a positive and welcoming environment while efficiently handling inquiries and requests.
  • Complete tasks requested by office staff, including creating infographics, processing tour requests, and tracking/restocking inventory.
  • Lead solo tours of the National Weather Center, delivering engaging and factual presentations about the building and its partners to diverse groups.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator with on-site and off-site outreach events, which may require travel outside Norman and work during nights or weekends.
  • Periodically assist with outreach and recruitment events.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma (hiring contingent upon verification of current student status).
  • Must attach Fall 2026 class schedule.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen to enter federal space as required for the job.
  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in good standing (not on academic or disciplinary probation) in the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences at the University of Oklahoma, or a currently enrolled graduate student with a major in the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences.
  • Basic understanding of meteorological concepts.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Strong group facilitation and coordination skills.
