About the Role
The Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment seeks a STEPS Research Farm Technician II for the Research Farms division. The Research Farms provide teaching, research, and extension opportunities for faculty, staff, and students. This role supports research activities and performs duties related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the facility.
Responsibilities
- General farm and facilities maintenance, including:
- Mowing, hand trimming, and landscape maintenance
- Planting trees and tree/limb removal/cleanup (including felling trees)
- Road repairs and fence construction/repair (including painting)
- Building repairs, maintenance, and painting
- Calibrate pesticide application equipment, mix, and apply pesticides
- Other duties as assigned to maintain and improve facility aesthetics
- All other tasks related to facilities and farm maintenance
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience operating a zero-turn mower and weed eater
- Lawn care experience preferred
Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, or pull objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand or walk while carrying objects up to 10 lbs.
- Willingness to work from elevated platforms
- Occasional overtime, including potential holidays and weekends
Schedule
- Full-time, temporary position (37.5 hours/week)
- Monday–Friday, with variable start/finish times (typically 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM)
Pay
$15.00–$18.00/hour
