About the Role

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll contribute to meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. This role involves maintaining farm property, equipment, and facilities, as well as caring for farm animals, particularly sheep, within the Microbiology Division. Your work will support solutions and workflows for food, clinical, and pharmaceutical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Feed animals daily and provide care as needed.
  • Set up equipment for bleeding, maneuver animals into shoots, bleed animals as needed, and clean the area thoroughly.
  • Assist with general farm upkeep, including fence lines, drainage ditches, lawn, and house/farm repairs (minor electrical and plumbing).
  • Provide basic feed and upkeep for animals on a weekend rotation basis.
  • Operate company vehicles and machinery such as tractors, trucks, and loaders.
  • Check farm for safety and security as needed.
  • Use hand-held machinery (e.g., grinder, drill, weed eater) for routine farm upkeep.
  • Report any actual or potential safety hazards to the Supervisor, Human Resources, Safety Specialist, or Senior Management.

Environmental Conditions

  • Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
  • Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Safety Standards.
  • Exposure to fluctuating temperatures (hot/cold).
  • Laboratory and farm setting with loud noises from equipment/machinery.
  • Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).
  • Standing for the full shift (10-hour days).
  • Exposure to strong odors (chemical, lubricants, biological products, etc.).
  • Work in various outside weather conditions.
  • Handling hazardous/toxic materials.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic exposure to hand tools and equipment from a farming environment.
  • 1+ years of related farm experience or equivalent experience.
  • Basic knowledge of English, math, and reading ability.
  • Good mechanical proficiency.
  • Ability to walk up to 2 hours a day and stand up to 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Additional Information

Thermo Fisher Scientific has entered into an agreement to sell its microbiology business to Astorg, a pan-European private equity firm. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals. If you join the microbiology business prior to the close, your employment is expected to transition to Astorg.
