This position, under the supervision of the Cropping Systems Agronomist, provides assistance to the research crop scientists and crop research team. The worker assists the supervisor in establishing, maintaining, and collecting research data and harvesting field and greenhouse research plots. Following established procedures, the worker provides assistance in data entry and analysis. Provides assistance maintaining lab, greenhouse, and field equipment.

About Us

This position is on-site. All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in establishing, maintaining, and collecting research data for field and greenhouse research plots.
  • Provide assistance in data entry and analysis following established procedures.
  • Maintain lab, greenhouse, and field equipment.
  • Operate soil water instruments containing radioactive material (requires compliance with KSU Radiation Safety Office).
  • Transport materials in excess of 50 lbs., not exceeding 100 lbs. unassisted on a regular basis.
  • Use field scientific instruments, lab instruments, computers, and grain processing facilities.
  • Operate motorized vehicles such as pickup trucks and utility vehicles on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in agricultural sciences.
  • Must be 18 years old to operate soil water instruments containing radioactive material.
  • Valid driver’s license (required upon employment to drive state-owned vehicles).
  • Ability to work in physical conditions involving exertion and exposure to inclement weather.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education in biological sciences, agricultural sciences, agricultural systems, or agriculture mechanics.
  • Knowledge of hazards and effects of pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides) and ability to read and interpret labels and MSDS/SDS instructions.
  • Proficiency in using computers and software such as MS Word, spreadsheets, and electronic data transfer.
  • Willingness to communicate errors or problems.
  • Ability to read and follow spoken and written plans.

Pay

$16.76 - $26.84/hr
