The work shift is UR - Day (United States of America) with a scheduled weekly commitment of 40 hours (full‑time, regular).

Responsibilities

This position entails joining the laboratory with a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary cardiovascular research environment. The Research Technician II will support an established research program focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease. Current projects investigate how alcohol consumption influences vascular remodeling, endothelial cell plasticity, endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT), arteriosclerosis, and vessel homeostasis. The successful candidate should have an interest in cardiovascular biology, vascular disease, cellular signaling, and translational research. The candidate will contribute to studies utilizing cell culture models, molecular and cellular biology techniques, animal models, and advanced genomic approaches to investigate mechanisms of cardiovascular disease. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior laboratory personnel, the Research Technician II will perform a variety of research activities in support of ongoing projects.

• Assist in the lab with the following experiments for a NIH-funded research project
• Collaborate and assist team members in their daily research activities related to the project
• Ensure smooth execution of experiments and shared responsibilities in the research project
• Perform routine laboratory maintenance such as defrosting freezers, conducting inventories of lab chemical stocks and general housekeeping tasks
• Assist with animal husbandry (maintenance of rats and mice, pre- and post-surgical preparation and follow-up, animal sacrifices as needed, etc.)
• Perform general laboratory duties such as preparing reagents, ordering and re-stocking supplies
• Maintain laboratory chemical inventory and ensure proper disposal
• Help ensure laboratory compliance for safety and fire inspections
• Assist in the lab with scientific procedures
• Maintain purchasing records for all lab purchases to give to the lab’s financial manager
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED and 1 year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities, compiling and collecting data and preparing reports (required)
• Associate's degree in Health Science, Biology, Chemistry or other science‑related field of study (preferred)
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2‑3 years specialized experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferred)
• Animal husbandry and colony management experience (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and scientific methods (required)
• Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills, including written communication (preferred)
• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy/physiology (preferred)

Pay

Compensation range: $20.34 – $28.51 per hour.
