Staff Nurse: 7 Medical

Full-time nights, 36 hours per week (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).

About the role

The Staff Nurse provides nursing care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and directs nursing care with a focus on family-centered care for individuals or groups of patients within the assigned scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients served, regardless of age and developmental status.
  • Performs leadership and professional duties, including precepting new employees and mentoring clinical staff.
  • Performs patient-centered care, quality improvement, and safety duties.
  • Participates in the development and education of staff members on clinically related issues.
  • Performs evidence-based practice duties and supports provider staff to promote collaboration, efficient operation, and legendary customer service for pediatric patients using a team approach.
  • Performs systems-based practice and informatics/technology duties.
  • May be temporarily assigned to other areas within Akron Children’s Hospital based on patient needs requiring similar knowledge and skill.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or must be obtained within 5 years from date of hire.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support training from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on the assigned department or unit.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio is required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience is preferred.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record system (e.g., EPIC) or similar software is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to other staff members with an emphasis on collaborative teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure to prioritize and complete tasks accurately and on time.
  • Experience working with various levels within an organization.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.

Schedule

Full-time, 0.9 FTE, onsite.
