Staff Assistant - Denver Fire Department
About the role
The Denver Fire Department is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Staff Assistant to join our administrative team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and can effectively manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee administrative functions, exercising delegated decision-making authority for daily operations.
- Evaluate operational processes, identify improvement opportunities, and recommend or implement effective solutions.
- Provide management with informed recommendations based on specialized knowledge and operational analysis.
- Interpret, communicate, and implement agency policies, procedures, and organizational changes.
- Support staff in adapting to new policies, procedures, and operational practices.
- Maintain the Operations Calendar, serving as the official daily record of firefighter and apparatus activities across the department.
- Monitor organizational expenditures, assist with budget development, and provide justification for budget requests.
- Aid in revenue recovery efforts for outstanding invoices.
- Cook up fire apparatus activities, including out-of-service requests and operational scheduling.
- Schedule firehouse in-service visits and track community outreach and engagement activities.
- Monitor street closures, City-sponsored events, and other operational impacts to support department readiness.
Requirements
- The ability to juggle multiple projects with superb accuracy.
- Strong clerical and administrative skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills, over the phone and in person, with our customers and internal departments.
- Strong sense of urgency and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
Qualifications
- Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience performing specialized and/or technical office support work of the type and at the level of Administrative Support Assistant IV.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of education may be substituted for each required year experience.
- Licenses/Certifications: None

Schedule
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility in scheduling. A four-day, 10-hour workweek (4/10s) may be available.
